In Photos: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Tatyana McFadden’s Day in Manhattan
NYRR Team for Kids Ambassador and five-time New York City Marathon champion Tatyana McFadden was recently in town for a video shoot with New York Road Runners, and photographer John Suhar was along for the ride. Take a behind-the-scenes look at Tatyana’s busy day, from breakfast to dessert.
Because Tatyana typically takes in several thousand calories a day to fuel her rigorous training schedule, her first stop in NYC was for breakfast—and hey, the crew wasn’t complaining. Tatyana and her mom, Deborah, enjoyed some morning treats at Wafels & Dinges just outside of Central Park.
With fuel in the tank, Tatyana demonstrated some of her training routine on the roads of Central Park.
Lunch break: After a morning full of filming, Tatyana hopped in a cab and made her way to dollar slices in Midtown.
The 17-time Paralympic medalist is recognized around the world and always makes time for photos with fans—even when delicious pizza is waiting in front of her.
After lunch, Tatyana caught up with pal Peter Ciaccia, NYRR’s president of events and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon, in Bryant Park, where the two enjoyed fresh juices and smoothies.
Tatyana surprised Emma Albert, a Rising New York Road Runners Youth Ambassador, by picking her up from school.
Emma is a participant in the NYRR Youth Wheelchair Training Program and will race in Central Park on June 9, just like Tatyana. She’ll be part of Rising New York Road Runners at the NYRR New York Mini 10K, which also has a wheelchair division for the first time this year.
Emma showed Tatyana her home turf, including Times Square.
More fans flocked to talk to the duo.
Cheer on Tatyana at the NYRR New York Mini 10K on June 9! The professional wheelchair race will begin at 7:50 a.m. on Central Park West at 61st Street and will finish at 67th Street on West Drive, with athletes vying for a first-place prize of $1,250. The race will also be streamed live on USATF.TV.
