5 Food Trucks Adding Flavor to the Popular® Brooklyn Half Pre-Party
The best part of any party is the food, and at the Popular® Brooklyn Half Pre-Party Presented by New Balance, we've got plenty! Check out the NYC food trucks that will be bringing the flavor to Brooklyn.
Japanese and Mexican cuisines are separated by an ocean, but here in New York, they are brought together by Takumi Taco.
For Derek Kaye, one of the founders of Takumi Taco, being part of the Popular® Brooklyn Half Pre-Party means getting back to the company's roots. “Brooklyn has an air and energy about it that can’t be found anywhere else,” he says. “We started our business in Brooklyn at Smorgasbord in 2012, so we always feel like it’s our home.”
As for the food, Derek is excited for runners to get their hands on it! “We hope that people will feel energized and ready to run a half-marathon,” he says. “Our Spicy Tuna Taco is our signature item. Sushi-grade ahi tuna with cucumber, jicama, avocado, and spicy mayo are perfectly nestled inside a handmade crispy gyoza shell.”
Keep your eye out for their signature red logo—you can’t miss it!
All the world is in New York, and so is its food! Toum, the Lebanese word for garlic, is a truck serving homestyle Lebanese food. Getting its start in NYC’s Lebanese community, the business has grown into a city-wide phenomenon. Toum Truck is backed by the hard work of the family who runs it.
One of the most important things that the owners want you to take away from a meal with them is the heart that goes into everything they make. “Our food is made with love and passion and we hope people can feel like they’re eating from their very own mother’s kitchen,” says owner Christine Chebli.
“Most of us on the Toum team were born and raised in Brooklyn," Chebli adds. "So it certainly feels like home, and what better place to serve people than a place where the people feel like family!”
So, what's Chebli's recommendation for what you should try at the Pre-Party? “The beef shawarma never disappoints," she says. "It’s a definite MUST-TRY!”
Red Hook Lobster Pound
Next up we have Red Hook Lobster Pound, founded by couple Susan and Ralph in 2009. Their seafood comes from the coastal communities in Maine that they have been part of for years. It's brought straight to Brooklyn and made into mouthwatering lobster rolls, chowder, and more.
Serving from a truck affectionately known as “Brig Red,” Red Hook Lobster Pound has expanded from Brooklyn to some of the biggest food truck venues in the city. After suffering crippling damage from Hurricane Sandy, Red Hook Lobster Pound came roaring back and is now better than ever.
At the Pre-Party, Red Hook Lobster will be serving up its signature lobster rolls. Try the Maine style roll, which features fresh Maine lobster tossed in homemade mayonnaise, dusted with paprika, and sprinkled with scallions.
Is your stomach growling yet?
Launched in 2012 to serve mac and cheese at the Saratoga racetrack, Mac Truck has come back home to take on NYC, serving up decadent and delicious comfort food that can be eaten on the go.
With a rotating menu based on ingredient availability, you never know which delicious mac you are going to get next: buffalo chicken, pulled pork, and broccoli are just a few.
And if those specialty toppings don’t make you hungry, there is also the classic mac and cheese to take you away to comfort food heaven.
Yankee Doodle Dandy’s
An all-American food truck serving the best chicken tenders in town, Yankee Doodle Dandy’s offers updated classics with a side of patriotism.
Its chicken tenders aren’t just the best-tasting, but also the most versatile. Want them in a grilled cheese sandwich? No problem. Chicken tenders on a salad? You got it!
The truck also sells a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads. And, of course, they have fries on the side to complete your food-truck meal.
