The 2018 United Airlines NYC Half is almost here, and you’ll be among the first runners to take on a brand-new course. Ensure a smooth start to your 13.1 by familiarizing yourself with these race-day logistics.

WEATHER UPDATE

We are expecting a cold start to the race. We recommend dressing in layers of clothing. You can discard unwanted clothing in the Goodwill donation bins before you start running. The bins will be located next to the start corrals. Get more cold-weather running tips

GETTING TO THE START

The staging area is located at Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard/Ocean Avenue. There is no access to the staging area from Grand Army Plaza. Runners arriving at Grand Army Plaza must walk approximately 1.3 miles south through Prospect Park to enter the staging area.

Public Transportation
We strongly recommend public transportation to the start:

  • Q/S to Prospect Park
  • 5 to Sterling Street
  • 4/5 to Franklin Avenue

Traveling by Car
Car/taxi drop-off is at Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard/Ocean Avenue.

There is no parking at the start. Runners driving to the race should park in Lower Manhattan and take public transportation to the start. 

START TIMES

Please note: Even if you’re assigned to Wave 1 but plan to run with Wave 2, you must check your bag according to the timeline for Wave 1.

There will be staggered starts for each wave.

Wave 1 Timeline
Checking a bag? Plan your travel to arrive at the start by 6:00 a.m. Not checking a bag? Arrive by 6:30 a.m. All runners must pass through metal detector screening. We ask for you cooperation in order to avoid any interruption to the day’s events.

  • Bag check opens 5:30 a.m.
  • Corrals open 6:00 a.m.
  • Bag check closes 6:50 a.m.
  • Corrals close 7:10 a.m.
  • Start 7:30 a.m.

Wave 2 Timeline
Checking a bag? Plan your travel to arrive at the start by 6:45 a.m. Not checking a bag? Arrive by 7:15 a.m. All runners must pass through metal detector screening. We ask for you cooperation in order to avoid any interruption to the day’s events.

  • Bag check opens 5:30 a.m.
  • Corrals open 6:00 a.m.
  • Bag check closes 7:35 a.m.
  • Corrals close 7:55 a.m.
  • Start 8:15 a.m.

PLAN YOUR POST-FINISH

The race finishes in Central Park on West Drive at 75th Street. Claim your checked bag on West Drive by Tavern on the Green before 12:00 p.m.

Plan to exit the park at 7th Avenue. East side access is available by using the 57th Street N/Q/R subway station.

There is no designated family reunion area, and friends and family will not have access to the post-finish area. Plan to meet your loved ones at a location outside this area. Decide on this location in advance, as there may be cell service saturation on race day.

POST-RACE TRANSPORTATION

  • A/C/D/1 at Columbus Circle
  • D/E at 7th Avenue
  • F at 57th Street
  • N/Q/R at 57th Street/7th Avenue
