There was a lot to celebrate at the 39th annual NYRR Club Night: competition, camaraderie, diversity, and more. Runners from all over NYC and beyond traded in their sneakers and singlets for fancy party attire and headed to Espace in Manhattan on February 1 to honor top runners, teams, and special award winners—and to mix, mingle, and rock the dance floor.

Following a reception with food and drink, an awards ceremony recognized this year’s individual and team award winners.

“The heart and soul of our community is our club teams,” said Michael Capiraso (@mcapiraso on Twitter and Instagram), president and CEO of New York Road Runners.

“Every time you guys come out to run with us, you’re supporting what we do,” said Peter Ciaccia (@peter_ciaccia on Twitter and Instagram), president of events for NYRR and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon.

As NYRR celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, we can look back on a Club Night tradition that began in 1980, when Fred Lebow started it as a celebration of notable performances at our races.

The cheering was especially loud for the special award winners: Achilles Athletes of the Year John Pierre and Jenny Hwang; NYRR Youth Programs Runners of the Year and Rising New York Road Runners Christopher Luna and Akiria Ford, NYRR Strider of the Year Larashearn Hill, Ultrarunners of the Year Dmytro Molchanov and Jodi Kartes-Heino, Joe Kleinerman Award recipient Larry Sillen, and Team Spirit Award winner North Brooklyn Runners.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners, and a big thank you to all attendees. We’ll see you soon at our races, events, and programs!
