2019 United Airlines NYC Half—What Happens Next?

The window for entering the general drawing or claiming your guaranteed entry to the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half has closed. For those who entered the general drawing—and anyone else interested in this iconic event—check out answers to some of the most common questions.

I entered the general drawing. When do I find out if I am in?

The drawing for general entry will take place on Wednesday, November 28. Accepted runners will be entered into the race on a rolling basis throughout the day, and application status will be updated in each runner's My NYRR profile.

Accepted runners will see a charge to their credit card for the race-entry fee. If your credit card is charged for the full race fee, you are accepted into the race. You may be charged before you receive an email confirming your status or before your status changes in your My NYRR account.
If a friend or family member receives an acceptance notification early in the day and you have not, remain calm, as the drawing takes place throughout the day.

Is there anything I should do ahead of the drawing?

Yes. Make sure your current NYRR membership is up to date, as well as your billing information, especially your credit or debit card. You don’t want to miss out because you forgot to update information on an expired card.

In 2018, a new course was unveiled. Will it be the same in 2019?

Yes! A brand-new course allowed for a larger field as the race incorporated Brooklyn. This updated 13.1-mile route will return for the March 17, 2019, edition of the race, with runners starting near Prospect Park.

They will then race down Flatbush Avenue and cross the Manhattan Bridge to the Lower East Side and Chinatown and continuing up the FDR Drive, crossing over to Times Square and finishing in Central Park—all free of traffic. This race is The One to Run!

Ahead of the 2018 race, Noah Droddy scouted the course (he finished 16th with a time of 1:05:00). If this video doesn’t get you hyped for 2019, we don’t know what will.

I claimed my guaranteed entry during the application window. Do I need to do anything else?

No. You can relax. All you have to do is get ready for race day and NYRR can help you with that. You can arrive at the start line ready to run your best race by using our tailored United Airlines NYC Half Virtual Training program. Alternatively you can get motivated by joining other runners at NYRR Group Training, which has sessions in all five boroughs.

I somehow slept through the application window and missed out on a guaranteed spot. I really want to be a part of this race. How can I get in?

If you missed the drawing or guaranteed entry window and now have FOMO, don’t worry. You can still run the streets of NYC by signing up to run with NYRR Team for Kids. Join TFK for expert coaching and the opportunity to help keep kids healthy and fit.

Runners living within the United States, who would like to participate in the United Airlines NYC Half can arrange a “Half-Marathon Travel Package” including guaranteed entry by contacting Anthony Travel. For reservations, please visit Anthony Travel or email nyrr@anthonytravel.com.

International runners may purchase the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half travel package from any of the participating ITOs.

I can’t run the race, but I still want to be part of The One to Run?

You can volunteer. Opportunities to volunteer open on December 1. And your volunteer opportunity will help to secure guaranteed entry into the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon though NYRR’s 9+1 program.
