Finish the Year With a New PR—With Help From NYRR’s Group Training Classes

If you’re not running the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, don’t worry—there’s still time to set a new fall PR!

And there’s no better way to achieve that goal than signing up for the next session of NYRR’s Group Training classes.

Sessions start on Tuesday, October 30, and run through December 22, meaning you can potentially celebrate the holiday season with a new PR.

Geared toward runners of all levels, from newcomers to experienced competitive racers, Group Training workouts—which are available in all five boroughs—offer coaching, camaraderie, and the inspiration that comes from running with others.

Why not set your sights on a new 5K PR at the NYRR Jingle Bell Jog 5K on Saturday, December 1, in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park?

Last year, friends Brenda Cooke and Cherae Hendy participated in the Astoria Park Group Training sessions and used the classes to prepare for the 2017 Jingle Bell Jog 5K. For Cherae, it was her first race, meaning an automatic PR! She credited Group Training for getting her to the start line—and across the finish line.

Far from just a running class, Group Training is known for the camaraderie between runners and coaches. For anyone intimidated, thinking they are not “fast enough,” runners are divided into compatible groups based on their experience, including results in recent New York Road Runners races when applicable. This way, participants are grouped in a mutually supportive and inspiring environment and you’ll meet like-minded runners and new training partners.

NYRR Group Training can help you get stronger and faster with your choice of five different types of weekly sessions:

  • Turnover Tuesdays, which focus on interval training (faster short runs with rest intervals between them)

  • Mashup Wednesdays, which offer a variety of interval and tempo workouts

  • Winged-Foot Wednesdays (seasonal), which concentrate on speed intervals

  • Tempo Thursdays, which primarily feature tempo runs (steady runs at a challenging effort)

  • Weekend Long Runs, coach-led runs on the streets of NYC in the weeks leading up to key NYRR races throughout the year.

So why not sign up for the next session of Group Training and Jingle Bell Jog your way into the holiday season with a new PR!
