Running for Youth in Central Park

Running for Youth in Central Park

The smiles said it all today at the NYRR 1 for You 1 for Youth 4M, an event with a unique—and heartwarming—twist: For the race souvenir, entrants received a pair of New Balance running shoes, and as part of NYRR and New Balance's 1 for You 1 for Youth program, a runner in NYRR's youth programs also received a pair of New Balance shoes, free of charge.** In this way the event supported New York Road Runners' and New Balance's 1 for You 1 for Youth initiative,* launched this year to provide young runners with new and high-quality running shoes.

For each pair of shoes purchased at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the NB Run Hub, New Balance will donate a pair of running shoes to NYRR’s youth programs. In turn, New York Road Runners distributes the running shoes to participants in their free youth running programs, including its newly launched flagship youth program, Rising New York Road Runners. New Balance pro athlete Kim Conley joined youth runners for a shoe distribution on Friday at the NYRR RUNCENTER.

Today’s champions in Central Park were Peter Geithner of Hanover, NH, in 20:13 and Paige Yellen of Greater New York Racing Team in 24:41.

Runners were delighted to score a pair of New Balance running shoes for their race entry fee, and even more thrilled to support youth running through their 1 for You 1 for Youth shoe donation. “When we heard about this race, we had to do it,” said Jenni Tyliszczak of Brooklyn.

“What runner doesn’t have too many race T-shirts?” said her friend Liz Salvucci of Sterling, VA. “This race gave us something different. Even better, it supports a great cause, giving shoes to kids.”
