Miles in the Park Before Dark

Miles in the Park Before Dark

Nearly 5,000 runners changed out of work clothes and into shorts and singlets for the NYRR R-U-N 5K, a weeknight race in Central Park. The event also offered lawn games, photo booths, and post-race treats for runners to enjoy before heading off to happy hour.

Some runners looked to improve their time from last week's NYRR Brooklyn R-U-N 5K in Prospect Park.

Askale Merachi, who won the women's race in Prospect Park in 18:03, dropped down to a 16:42 to win in Central Park. She wasn't far behind the overall winner, Camilo Duarte, who broke the tape in 15:39.

Also in the field, model Candice Huffine ran with alumni from the NYRR Run for the Future program, completing her first race as a NYRR Team for Kids ambassador.

Once the 3.1 miles were done, runners could collect the usual water and bagels, plus a special summer treat: popsicles! Not a bad way to keep cool on a warm subway platform.

They could also get together for a post-race team photo (or four) at the photo booth...
