Summer just started, but we’re already 20 weeks away from the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. That means it’s time to talk training.

If you’ve committed to November’s 26.2-mile journey through the five boroughs—or another fall marathon—you’ve probably started to put together your training plan, schedule your long runs, and prep for all the summer miles that are ahead of you.

And if you haven’t, now’s a good time to start. We’ve got six training options to help you hit the ground running.

Tap into NYRR Virtual Trainer

Use the TCS New York City Marathon Training Program to prep for the big event with us no matter where you live and train. Supply some basic info about yourself, and you’ll receive a tailor-made training regimen customized to your fitness, running experience, and lifestyle. Twenty-, sixteen-, and twelve-week programs are available. Running a different fall marathon? Use the NYRR Marathon Training Program to get ready for any 26.2-miler.

Boost your speed and endurance with a group...  


If your marathon training plan calls for fartleks or tempo runs, knock out those workouts with a group. There are two eight-week NYRR Group Training sessions left before November 4—one runs July 10 to September 1 and the other from September 4 to October 27.

...or train one-on-one

Through NYRR 1:1 Coaching, our newest training option, you'll be matched with a coach based on your running history, current training, past injuries, and goals. During each one-hour meeting, your coach will guide you toward hitting these goals while also providing tips on how to improve recovery, eat right, and more. 

Switch up your scenery

If you're getting tired of running through the same neighborhoods and past the same landmarks, check out NYRR Running Routes, a collection of 12 running maps that will help you see the five boroughs on foot. The routes also include fascinating facts and immersive photos of the monuments, streets, and views you’ll see during your run.

Schedule your long runs in Central Park  

Register for our TCS New York City Marathon Training Series events and log up to 18 miles with the support of built-in pacers, training partners, and fluid stations.

New for 2018, NYRR Virtual Racing can be a great way to test your progress while having fun running a themed race. Register now for the NYRR Virtual GOOAAALLL 5K (general entry is free!) and race anywhere, anytime between July 1 and July 15. Then, closer to November 4, take on another virtual race to see just how much your summer training has paid off.
