How to Be a Spectator at the Airbnb Brooklyn Half

How to Be a Spectator at the Airbnb Brooklyn Half

You can share in the excitement of the Airbnb Brooklyn Half and provide lots of on-course support for runners on May 20. Don’t let the early start times deter you—you’ll have plenty of company, and you’ll win huge props for being an awesome fan!

Follow these tips to make the most of your spectating experience:

  • Get familiar with the course map, and download the NYRR app so you can track runners.
  • Stay away from the start—it’s crowded and the staging areas are for runners only, for security reasons.
  • Watch at these locations for a great spectator experience:
    • Flatbush Avenue (miles 1–2)

    • Parkside Avenue/Park Circle (miles 3–4)

    • Ocean Parkway at Ditmas Avenue—Team for Kids cheer zone (mile 8)

    • Coney Island boardwalk between West 10th Street and Stillwell Avenue (mile 13/finish; access the boardwalk via Stillwell Avenue or West 12th Street)

  • Take public transportation, as there’s no parking at the start, in Prospect Park, or along the course. After watching in the early miles, you can take the F to West Eighth St/Stillwell Ave near the finish. If you want to drive to the finish only, Brighton Beach Municipal Parking Field is open 4:00-7:00 a.m. (exit anytime).
  • Wear comfortable shoes, and be aware that you won’t be able to cross the route once the race is in progress.
  • Tell your runners where you’ll be—it’s often easier for them to spot you than for you to see them. Make a sign so you’re extra-visible, and cheer with gusto!
  • Pack drinks and snacks, and wear sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Plan to reunite with your runners at the Airbnb Brooklyn Half After-Party at MCU Park. Have a rough timeframe, as cell saturation may limit your ability to communicate in the post-finish area.
  • Stick around for the NYRR Youth Boardwalk Run, a one-mile race for hundreds of youth ages 7-18.
